Reports from partner organisations

We are always pleased to be able to share news from the organisations which the Trust supports.

Jonglei Health Sciences Institute (Anglican International Development)

Projects Manager David Young writes:

'Thank you very much for your very generous grant of £1,000 in May 2022 (as well as your two previous grants in 2019 and 2021) towards AID’s work through Drs Anil and Shalini Cherian, the two medical missionary doctors who run the Jonglei Health Sciences Institute (JHSI) in Bor, South Sudan.
In the last three months, 20 students have graduated, and another 30 will be graduating in November 2023. Nineteen of the current students are studying clinical medicine and 11 are midwifery students. Since 2021 six students have dropped out, but another four have joined.'

TLM (The Leprosy Mission)

This message came from Sandra Pearce, TLM Trusts Officer:

'Thank you to everyone at The St Lazarus Charitable Trust. Your cheque for the third and final grant of £30,799 towards our three-year project at Premananda Hospital in India has landed safely. Thank you.

This grant will go directly to our hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, which provides free specialist leprosy treatment for over 2,400 people every year.

In 2021, the hospital treated 795 men and 208 women affected by leprosy for free — 1,003 people in total. It also provided treatment for a further 4,024 patients who had a family member who is affected by leprosy.

Thanks to your support, we can provide this vital treatment to people affected by leprosy who need specialist care. This includes offering reconstructive surgery to restore mobility, cataract surgery, providing protective footwear to prevent injury, and running health
education classes teaching people self-care methods and how to prevent further injury.

Thank you again for your loyal support; your gifts have brought healing, dignity and hope for people affected by leprosy.'
