The St Lazarus Charitable Trust has agreed that the Grand Prior's World Leprosy Day Project for 2024 (WLD24) will be to support The Leprosy Mission of England & Wales with a project in Batticaloa on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. Our aim is to try to raise £15,000 across the Grand Priory to fund the following:
the building of improved toilet blocks and latrines to combat the spread of infection and disease;
installing six wells to provide a safe, clean supply of water; and
establishing contact tracing to find and cure leprosy amongst children. This will include skin camps to detect and diagnose leprosy and raise awareness in schools, the aim being to detect and treat leprosy in youngsters so that they don't face a lifetime living with the dreadful effects of this awful disease.
